SPRING IS IN THE AIR

Spring has sprung! Here at Adoptions of Indiana we’re settling into the swing of 2017 and looking forward to what this year will bring. From the excitement of participating in Brackets for Good, to prepping for our Birth Mother’s Day Celebration, to scoping out options for our annual In it for the Long Run 5k, our staff and board are keeping busy!

Annual Birth Mother’s Day Celebration

The majority of our attention, at this moment in time, is focused on the approaching Birth Mother’s Day Celebration. For the past 13 years, this event has served as a foundational pillar of our mission. It represents everything we strive for; a moment to step out of our daily routine to honor and celebrate the women who have inspired our work. As a child-centered agency we rely on our birth and adoptive parents to make those decisions that put the needs of their child before their own. This celebration is a chance to honor that deep commitment.

We want to encourage our adoptive families to reach out and make sure your child’s birth mother, or birth parents, know about the event. Pass along the details and offer to attend with them if they’d like! It’s a special opportunity for them to spend an evening with others who are sharing in a similar journey. Details will be listed at the end of this post.

There are other ways of getting involved too, for you, any friend, or family member interested! Each year we love to be able to partner with our community to provide out-of-the-ordinary treats for the women who attend.

Get as creative as you want!

We’ve had families with beauty salons donate hair care services, providing a rare chance for our birth moms to get pampered. We’ve had donations of gas cards or restaurant gift cards, allowing for basic daily needs to be met. These are all great ways to show birth moms how special they are. If you know of anyone who may want to get involved here are some ideas:

  • Donate small-value restaurant gifts cards to chain restaurants, places that could be accessed from all over the state
  • Provide a small basket of treats: Bath & Body Works products, sweet treats themed arrangements, or a “night at the movies” theme with theater gift cards and candy
  • Make a monetary donation to AOI for the purpose of providing for the underwriting of this event
  • Or maybe you know someone who would want to volunteer a service for the event: set up & take down, child care, or something they think would help make the event extra special

Any and all ideas are welcome! Questions and thoughts can be emailed to Addison, our office manager, at addison@adoptionsofindiana.org.

Ultimately we want this celebration to be an embodiment of the respect and admiration that all of us share for birth mothers. Your involvement means the world!

A Special Notice to our past & present clients:

Amid all the excitement, our agency was saddened to hear about the closure of Independent Adoption Center (IAC) at the end of January. This event, however, gave us the opportunity to reflect on our mission and vision for Adoptions of Indiana. It reminded us of the importance of you, our community, and our devotion to providing the lifelong support that we promise. Know that we are here for you at any turn; we are healthy and growing, and actively seeking ways to improve our services. We’re taking the renewing energy of spring and channeling it into our work.

In the vein of all of this planning, preparation, and renewal we want to alert all our present and past clients that we will be crafting and disseminating a survey to gauge where we stand as an agency. All responses will be anonymous and greatly appreciated. Please be looking for this request in the next few weeks and be honest and thoughtful in your responses. As we continue to grow and evolve as an organization, your feedback is vital to our improvement.
