Elizabeth & Drew

Hello! We are Drew, Elizabeth, and Lucas (Lukey), and we are so glad you are reading our profile! We met in college and became college sweethearts after our roommates set us up on a date, and the rest is history! After graduating from college, we moved across the country to Drew’s home state of Arizona.  We lived in Arizona for a year. Then we decided to get married, and in 2011 we tied the knot! While living in Arizona, Elizabeth tried desperately to convince Drew to move back to her home state of Indiana with plans of starting a family. After some careful negotiations, he complied.  When attempting to start our family, we experienced some unexpected infertility issues, but in 2022, we were blessed with the adoption of our son, Lucas.

Drew works as a branch manager of a large equipment company, and Elizabeth works with children as an occupational therapist through our local hospital. Lukey works hard at the babysitter by making art, playing with his friends, and avoiding a nap. After we make it home, we like to have dinner together, play inside or outside, and snuggle before bedtime! As a family, we enjoy being outside in the woods, riding around the property on our Ranger, and camping. Drew loves woodworking in the shop while Elizabeth loves puzzles. Lukey loves to play with cars and characters and let his imagination run wild.

We are excited about the possibility of expanding our family, and Lucas is looking forward to having a sibling he can grow old with. Relationships are a top priority for us, and we hope to get to know you soon.

What Elizabeth loves about Drew

  • Drew is one of the hardest workers I know — he is always busy doing something for us, family, or friends!
  • He is a handy guy. If he doesn’t know how to fix it right away, he’s only a YouTube video away from making something work again!
  • He loves being a dad and is so good at it! Lukey walks around in hats with safety glasses to be like dad. I love watching how their relationship grows more each day.
  • Drew has a great sense of humor (and getting more and more “dad humor” under his belt); he knows the perfect way and time to make me laugh!
  • He is passionate about anything he does (grilling, swimming, being a dinosaur)… he goes all in!

What Drew loves about Elizabeth

  • Elizabeth is an amazing mother. I often get jealous of her natural instincts to relate to Lucas and nurture him. She is excelling in her role as a mom.
  • Elizabeth knows how to keep me in line.
  • She is devoted to her faith, family, and friends and never waivers in her devotion to them.
  • Elizabeth has been my partner in crime for over 20 years! She is always there for me, no matter what.
  • She loves my “dad humor” and never gets tired of it.
  • I love Elizabeth’s ability and desire to relate to children. It keeps her mind and soul young. She has always had the desire to help kids reach their full potential, so it fits perfectly with being an occupational therapist!

Parenting

We were blessed to foster two boys prior to our adoption of Lucas, so we have practiced as a parenting team for several years now… And that’s exactly what we are as parents, a team. We balance each other out. For example, Elizabeth plays kid songs on the way to daycare with Lucas, while Drew will play Bob Marley, Metallica, and Garth Brooks. Elizabeth is very nurturing, where Drew is a typical boy dad and will be rough and rowdy with Lucas, especially right before bed time. Although we bring different qualities to our parenting team, our overall goal is to help any children that come into our lives to grow into smart, kind humans that value family, faith, and education. We strive to provide a life full of experiences and adventures to help achieve that goal. We want to show our love through words as well as actions. We will raise our child(ren) to know their adoption story and be proud of who they are and where they are from.

Our Home

We are blessed to live in our spacious rural home for over 10 years now that sits on several acres of land. There is grass to run in, woods to explore, a big garage for Drew to work in and Lucas to make mischief in, and last but not least, “Lukey’s playground” (swings, slide, monkey bars, and a sandbox) that he loves to share with his cousins or friends when they come over.

In our community, we have several parks, indoor play areas, a YMCA with a pool, and highly-rated schools. We are within an hour’s drive of several large cities with museums, zoos, and other activities for kids as well.

Traditions

During the year, we like to pick out a Christmas ornament from something fun or somewhere we have been during that year to put on the tree. It makes our Christmas tree so special to set up each year as we remember our cherished time together as a family.

Halloween is Lucas’s favorite holiday and lately has revolved around whatever he is into at the moment. He has been Maui, Olaf, and Charlie Brown. We wear shirts that complement his costumes, creating some adorable family costumes and cute photos to cherish. Lukey can’t wait for some duo costumes in the future to share with a sibling!

Thanksgiving and Christmas are usually large gatherings with sometimes upwards of 40 people at one of our relative’s houses! It’s a noisy, entertaining, and busy time that is full of laughter and love. There are too many nieces and nephews to count, and they are always causing a ruckus, but it’s a great time.

Family and Friends

We have family both near and far. We both have sisters with 5 year old girls and 1 year old boys! Lukey loves his cousins and will often ask to talk to them on the phone when we can’t see them in person, so we spend a lot of time on FaceTime with family and friends.

Each day, Elizabeth checks in with her parents and sister, always sending their Wordle results first thing in the morning. Communication continues throughout the day via text messages and several times weekly there is a group FaceTime. She texts or talks with her sister daily, often going back and forth on parenting successes and sometimes the woes of a sleepless night. They are best friends!

Lucas attends an in-home daycare where he gets just as much love as at home…probably spoiled a little more than at home! His daycare provider is also from Arizona, not far from where Drew grew up. So there was an instant connection, and we often see her and her family outside of daycare. Daycare provides pictures and updates on him throughout the day. We love how excited he gets each morning to be there! He thrives when he is learning with kids of all ages, all in one place. For the first 12 weeks, Elizabeth will be off work to bond with a new baby before they will get spoiled at daycare right alongside their big brother.

So Far…

We are extremely blessed to have a great relationship with Lukey’s birth family and have spent his birthday with them each year. We send updates, exchange pictures, and communicate openly. Lukey even got to go to his birth mom’s graduation! Initially, we were uncertain about the openness of adoption, but through the education we received from Adoptions of Indiana, we are so happy that we chose an open adoption. It has truly turned out to be one of the best parts about adopting. It’s heartwarming to see the connection Lucas has with his birth mother when they see each other.

We are excited for another opportunity to share similar moments with you. However, we know each situation is different, and we are open to all types of communication. We want what is best for you at this point in your life and will always be willing to work with you in the future, if you change your mind about the type of adoption you are seeking.

We are ready for another chapter in our adoption journey! Thank you for spending time getting to know a little about us. We look forward to learning about you.

No updates at this time.

Drew

  • I went to college on a swimming scholarship. Now, I’m really good at floating.
  • I love sugar cookies! There is a store in Arizona that makes the best smiley face sugar cookies, and I can’t visit my home state without buying a dozen.
  • I have too many grills. I enjoy grilling, but Elizabeth thinks my collection is excessive.
  • Being in the woods is amazing. I love spending time with my friends, whitetail and dove hunting.
  • I really enjoy what I do for work. Heavy equipment is awesome!  My technicians at work laugh at me because I always have to “test drive” the equipment once it is repaired.
  • I like being outside in the spring, fall, and winter. Mosquitoes like me being outside in the summer; I’m never too far away from mosquito repellent in the summer.
  • I have conversations with my dogs like they are my coworkers. They are really good to vent to because they listen really well.
  • Tinkering with my trucks and ATV is what I enjoy doing in my free time after work.
  • My favorite sports teams are the Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Suns, and I will reluctantly cheer for the Colts if Elizabeth is watching the game.
  • I have a lot of passions in my life, but my number one passion is being a dad and being a decent husband…. if you ask Elizabeth.

Elizabeth

  • I love to read books, but lately have to squeeze them in on audio books going to and from work. Sometimes it makes going into work hard, if I am in a good spot in the book! I’ve read/listened to most of Kristin Hannah and Jodi Picoult’s books. My favorite thing to do is to get suggestions from friends and family.
  • I love puzzles and always have one set up in the basement. Drew gifted me a puzzle table one year on my birthday, but I think it was mostly to get my puzzles out of the living room. We also create one as a family at Christmas time.
  • My favorite season is fall, when the weather and leaves start to change. However, after living in the Arizona desert for a few years, spring has a new place in my heart, when all the green returns!
  • I played volleyball and basketball in high school. I also swam in a summer league. I still love being active; our lunch break at work frequently involves taking a walk or yoga.
  • I will only drink my coffee cold. I make my own cold brew. It can be -5 outside, and I’ll have ice in my coffee.
  • My family loved to travel growing up and still do! My sister took me on a special 30th birthday trip to Texas for some sunshine. It rained so hard the days we were there, but we just put our rain gear on and went exploring!
  • I love a good chick flick when Drew is out of town, such as The Longest Ride, Virgin River, or Heartland. He tries to get me to watch scary movies, but then I have to wake him up in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep.
  • I believe a few good songs and the windows down can change your mood. I mostly listen to country music (Luke Combs, Maddie & Tae, and Eric Church are a few favs), but am open to anything with a good beat.
  • I’m often a competitive person. Per my request, my mom will still do Easter egg hunts for my sister, our husbands, and myself. We team up and race for who can find their eggs the fastest. Drew and I have a pretty big winning streak going!
  • I have always wanted to be a mom. The reality is better than the dream!

Lukey

  • I have the most energy and will not stop running, jumping, riding, and chasing until my head hits the pillow each night.
  • I like to go swimming with my mom and dad. Maybe I’ll be a college swimmer like my dad when I grow up.
  • At daycare, I make sure to check on the babies, getting toys for them and letting everyone know when they need something.
  • I love all things art: drawing, painting, and my latest love – BLUE (most people say glue, I guess)! I am so proud to have my pictures on display at home. I am also in charge of coloring cards for family and friends on their birthdays, and I love singing “happy birthday!”
  • I have a big imagination and love to play. I love to ride on dad’s back because he’s a dinosaur.  While riding on dad’s back, I like to yell at mom “watch out, here comes a dinosaur!” to make her run from us!

Coco

  • My mom and dad rescued me when I was little; they think I’m a lab and beagle mix.
  • My nose usually tells me where I need to go, even when my ears hear my parents calling my name.
  • Treats are my love language.
  • My favorite thing is to help Lukey while he eats his dinner… He sometimes drops food, so I do my best to help keep things clean!
  • I am very gentle with my Lukey, our nieces, and our nephews!

ruby

  • I am a spoiled mini goldendoodle, and I know it.
  • My favorite thing is when Lukey throws my toys for me! He sometimes even squeezes the squeaker, and I go nuts!
  • I will only eat my dinner with cheese on it.
  • I love to snuggle up with dad at bedtime.
  • I am always right in the middle of all the action.  It is my job to always be in the way, and I take my job very seriously.
