BACK TO SCHOOL!

Summer is over and everyone is posting adorable “First Day of…” chalkboard photos on Facebook. A new school year always comes with transitions and new experiences, but as families built through adoption, we sometimes face some additional challenges.

When (and how!) do you talk to your child’s teacher about your family’s adoption journey? What details, if any, are relevant to your child’s success at school? How do you explain the dynamic of an active and engaged birth family that might join you for school functions? The answers to these questions are different for everyone, but check out this article for some great insights from adoptive parents.

And then there is the other topic that comes up when talking about “Back to School”…THE FAMILY TREE ASSIGNMENT. This project often breeds anxiety, especially in families where there is limited available information. There is no ‘one size fits all’ answer, but this article discusses some great ways to make the “family tree assignment a beautiful opportunity to represent a child’s birth and adoptive families”.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right to peace of mind.

Every prospective adoptive parent should be screened to make sure they will provide your baby with a safe and loving home. A licensed agency like Adoptions of Indiana completes a thorough home study evaluating the family’s social, emotional, medical, and financial stability. We also require all of our adoptive families to complete several hours of pre-adoption education to prepare them as adoptive parents and help them understand adoption from the birth parent’s perspective.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US AT VICTORY FIELD!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the AOI Family Fun Day at Victory Field. We loved seeing your families and always enjoy catching up with you. We loved celebrating with birth AND adoptive families! It was a HOT day, but with your help, we raised more than $1,300 to support expectant women. These funds allow us to meet with pregnant women across the state and educate them on their rights. We are deeply grateful for your support.

We would love to see any pictures you took! Please share them to our private Facebook group! Stay tuned for more information on how you can support our mission!
