AOI Update: May 2020

WE STAND WITH YOU.

This is an incredibly difficult time for our country. As we mourn the black lives lost to a failing justice system, we support the thousands of Americans coming together to promote justice and affect real change in our country. The AOI family is beautifully diverse; an amazing community of different races, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, and life experiences. No two families are the same, but we know that you are hurting right now. We remain committed to educating our adoptive families about the importance of racial identity and we will continue to ask the tough questions.

To our African American families, we cannot begin to understand your fear, anger and pain. Please know that we embrace each of you. We will continue to listen to your experiences and do all we can to stand for you.

To our families who have adopted transracially, we recognize you are facing a unique challenge as you raise a child of color. We know you are concerned for the future your children will face and feel helpless to protect them from these realities.

To our families in law enforcement, we recognize that this time of unrest is difficult as your loved ones work to protect peaceful demonstrations and deter further violence.

To all of our families, we wish you peace and healing as our leaders have critically important conversations about how we can make our world safe and just. We encourage you to continue to do the hard work in your own homes and talk to your children about racism. Take care of each other.

AOI FAMILY SPOTLIGHT:

Given the current fight for social justice, we decided not to feature an AOI family this month and instead ask you for your stories. We invite all of our families, especially families of color and those who have adopted transracially, to share their adoption story with us. We believe representation is important and the experiences of families of color should be shared and heard.

We would love to feature your story of love and family with the rest of the AOI family. Please contact us at info@adoptionsofindiana.org or click the link below.

HELP US CONTINUE TO SERVE

As you know, we reluctantly decided to cancel our 25th Anniversary Family Fun Day due to the COVID-19 health crisis. While we are saddened that we will not be able to celebrate with you all in person, we are confident we made the right decision to protect our staff and families. Not only are these family events a great opportunity to come together as a community, they are also one of the main ways we raise crucial funds to allow us to continue our options counseling and adoption education programs.

If you were planning to purchase a ticket to our Family Fun Day, would you consider supporting our mission through a donation in honor of our 25th anniversary? While COVID-19 may have put a stop to our celebration, women continue to experience crisis pregnancies and the pandemic has created additional barriers for them to receive the help they need. We want to be there for them, no matter what.
