Tyler & Kelsey

Hi there! We are Kelsey, Tyler, and Gabriel!

We have been together since 2009 and married since 2018. We welcomed Gabriel through adoption in 2023. Gabriel is the light and ENERGY of our family. Kelsey is patient, creative and caring, which shows in her career as an occupational therapist on a burn unit. Tyler is a pharmacist who is dependable, goofy, and makes friends wherever he goes. We also have 3 furry members of our family: Lily, a 3-legged German Shepherd; Sedona, a mixed breed polka dotted old lady dog; and Burlington, our cat who is the calmest/best behaved of all of us.

Our house often has piles of laundry, train sets, and construction paper with crayons everywhere, along with music playing all throughout (usually Prince, we love Prince). We think the mess and chaos = love. The kitchen is made for dancing while Tyler makes banana pancakes, and the living room is for making pillow piles and running and crashing into them. Through the food, music, books, and art in our home, we hope it reflects each of our unique backgrounds: Kelsey’s Thai and German lineage, Tyler’s Filipino culture, and Gabriel’s black heritage. We can’t wait to grow our family and add a baby to this blended, fun, and full-of-love household. Thank you for visiting our profile!

Kelsey

  • My favorite thing to do on a rainy day is antique shopping! My favorite find is actually the dresser that is in our nursery right now! It is from the 1800s and has solid wood. That bad boy was SO HEAVY to move upstairs.
  • I love filling our home with art. We have art from several different countries, including art by Thai, Filipino, and Black artists to represent all of our family cultures.
  • I have played the piano since I was 6 years old! I love to play Disney songs and have Gabriel guess what movie it’s from.
  • Many times a month, I FaceTime my sister and her kids in Nebraska and also my grandma in Thailand.
  • I love having plants and have over 20 different potted plants in our house! Gabriel and I enjoy watering the plants together every week.
  • I was super close to my great grandparents growing up: my Oma (a seamstress) and my Opa (a carpenter). I loved doing all sorts of projects with them. Oma and I made my prom dresses!
  • I work 4 days a week. On my free weekday, I love to take Gabriel on mama/son dates. Breakfast, shopping, the zoo, a park, … whatever the vibe is!
  • My birthday is the day after Valentine’s Day. The best part? Discount chocolate! I love anything with chocolate and peanut butter.
  • I used to be a SUPER picky eater growing up, but when I went away for college and made new friends – I stepped outside of my comfort zone, and I love all kinds of foods now. Just nothing super spicy.
  • I have had the same group of best friends since 7th grade! My mom calls the 5 of us “The Giggly Girls” because we would stay up all night snacking, drinking Dr. Pepper, playing Just Dance, and you guessed it… gossiping and giggling.

Tyler

  • Just like a classic Hoosier, I love playing basketball. My dad, brother, and I would play “HORSE” for hours growing up.
  • I was a band nerd – in the best way possible. Band is how I met my wife and some of my best friends. I played trumpet in marching band, show choir band, pep band, jazz band, symphonic band, pit orchestra, and orchestra. See? Band nerd.
  • When I graduated from high school, my brother and I went on a road trip out west to several different parks. We hiked Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park, which you now have to have a permit for.
  • I will always root for the Colts and the Pacers. Yes ‘Cers!
  • I love cooking Filipino food. I have learned a few recipes from my mom and uncle, but there’s several more of my favorite dishes from childhood that I need to learn!
  • I admire American Traditional style tattoos, and I have 6 tattoos, which all have meaning to me. My favorite tattoo is of Gabriel’s birthflower, a lily of the valley, on my forearm.
  • Everyone in my extended family sings or plays an instrument. You know every get-together there’s karaoke, and every wedding we do a song “flash mob” style (mine and Kelsey’s wedding included).
  • I enjoy woodworking and have built several pieces of furniture in our house. The item that gets the most use is a long, thin table that sits behind our couch. It is 10 feet long and is a catch all for books, toys, drinks, whatever we want on hand while we’re lounging on the couch!
  • I learned to crochet over my paternity leave with Gabriel. I made a stuffed fox!

Gabriel

  • Someday I might be an engineer. My favorite toys always involve trains, cars, tracks, gears, and/or switches. Anything mechanical really.
  • I love bike rides around the neighborhood, ESPECIALLY when we go over bridges or into tunnels.
  • My top 5 favorite artists right now are Prince, J. Lo, Elton John, ABBA, and Queen. I can ask Alexa to play my favorite songs whenever I like.
  • I have a zoo membership. My favorite animal is the porcupine, but my parents say, “Never touch a porcupine. He’s not a fluffy cat! He’ll spike you with his giant quills. And that will be that!”
  • I LOVE bananas. I once ate 7 bananas in one morning. I was even a banana for Halloween last year!

Lily

  • I only have 3 legs, and I’ve had plastic surgery on my face. (I was hurt by another dog in my first home. I don’t like to talk about it…) But it doesn’t stop me from playing frisbee!
  • I can play frisbee with my humans for houuurrsss.
  • I like to go on bike rides! The tiny human rides in a seat on Tyler’s bike and I get pulled in a trailer on Kelsey’s bike.

Sedona

  • I went to Purdue with Tyler! Tyler was lonely during his first year of pharmacy school, then I came along and the rest is history.
  • My favorite activity is catching scrap food from the tiny human.
  • I love sleepovers at my grandparents’ house. They like taking me on walks and feeding me apples.

Burlington

  • I secretly love it when the tiny human hugs me and pulls my tail. I will go back for more.
  • I’m a licensed exterminator. No bugs in this house. You’re welcome!
  • I like to play tag with Lily. I always win.
