Matt & Jordan

Hi, We’re Jordan & Matt!

This is a story about two teachers, one hallway apart. Jordan taught fourth grade. Matt taught chemistry. The friendship came first. The chemistry, as it turned out, was already there.

We’ve been together ever since. We got married in Indianapolis in 2019, after moving here to be closer to family. Our house sits right across from a city park, in a friendly neighborhood full of kids of all ages.

Between the two of us, we’ve spent our careers loving, teaching, and cheering on other people’s kids. Now our biggest dream is to be the dads waving from the front porch as our own kiddo runs across the street to play.

Jordan

  • I became an uncle at age 4. Yes, four.
  • I was completely obsessed with school buses as a kid. Now I work at a school, so honestly, the dream came true!
  • I’m half Middle Eastern, and my dad’s side of the family still calls the Middle East home.
  • I anchored my school’s morning show every single year of middle AND high school.
  • I have three college degrees. My nieces and nephews are not impressed…
  • I know the words to every Taylor Swift song. Every. Single. One.
  • I once got a pie in the face from an entire class of fourth graders, and I consider it a career highlight.
  • I grew up in Florida, but don’t like the beach. Matt says we’re working on it.
  • I’ll watch anything on TV, but true crime is my favorite.
  • I’m a self-taught graphic designer and a self-taught home renovator. Matt is thrilled about exactly one of those.

Matt

  • I collect cookbooks. It stopped being a shelf a long time ago.
  • I was obsessed with lighthouses growing up.
  • I still listen to mixed CDs I burned in high school, and I make a Spotify playlist for every season of the year. Yes, both can be true.
  • I was on the swim team. One year I was MVP. The next year, I won Most Improved. Jordan brings this up constantly and refuses to let the math go.
  • I’ve seen Kesha live more times than I’m willing to put in writing.
  • I taught high school chemistry, which means I’ve cleaned up explosions both planned and unplanned.
  • I never had a pet before Cass. Now, he’s the most spoiled member of the household, and it’s entirely my fault.
  • My laugh has been described as “audible from across the street.” I stand by it.
  • I started working out during COVID and haven’t missed a day since.
  • I call my parents every Sunday. Every single one.

Cass

  • I’m Cass, and my hobbies include sleeping, napping, and dozing. Sleep is the most important thing in my life. It’s good to have priorities.
  • I must be covered in blankets at all times. If you sit down, I will be under a blanket next to you within two minutes.
  • I destroy toys, so I’m only allowed the indestructible kind. I’ve heard a kid might mean stuffed animals in the house. I am VERY interested in this development.
  • My best friend is a dog named Kirby. I also believe every other person and dog I’ve ever met is my best friend. And any kid I meet? Instant best friend for life.
  • If someone is home, I will be in the room with you. It’s not that I don’t like being alone. Okay, it’s exactly that.

Fletcher

  • I’m Fletcher, and I enjoy sunny windows, morning pets, and taunting my brother. That’s the whole list of things I enjoy.
  • I was told this was a list of things I DON’T like. That list is much longer. See me for details.
  • My automatic feeder and I have a complicated relationship. It feeds me, which I respect. It also enforces portion control, which I do not.
  • Cass thinks everyone is his best friend. I think that’s embarrassing for him.
  • I run this household from the nearest sunny window. The dads just don’t know it yet.
