Gabe & Brenna

Hello! We are Brenna and Gabe. We appreciate you looking at this profile of our life together! Gabe works in the purchasing department for a growing company, often with the ability to work from home, when needed. Brenna has been a preschool teacher and daycare worker for 11 years and loves her job working with children every day. Our house is a little like a zoo and a museum rolled into one. With lots of pets (exactly 14, to be precise!), books, and things from around the world that we hope a child will someday have so much fun exploring!

We believe our approach to parenting will be unique, as we have both spent our lives overcoming obstacles; in our six years of marriage, we have been able to come out stronger together! Gabe has autism, but now sees his neurodivergence as an advantage, and Brenna survived a rare leukemia as an infant – which caused her adorable, but small stature – that helps her better relate to children and have more empathy towards kiddos she teaches, some with special needs. Together, we understand that life can throw you curveballs, but we know we will continue to overcome everything life has thrown our way.

  • My family likes to play mystery and adventure board games, defeating monsters together!
  • I like to make board games for friends and family. Someday I want to make one to publish.
  • Some of my cultural and historical academic illustrations have been published! I look forward to working on many more books, especially about culture, art, and history.
  • I had the opportunity to attend a Hula school that was taught by a Hawaiian couple who moved to the continental U.S. I was honored to learn some of this traditional dance from them, and in awe of the strenuous discipline it takes.
  • I did gymnastics in middle school and high school. It was a special program for kids with autism, and it made a HUGE difference in my life.
  • I like to create art with Brenna’s dad. We frequently ask each other for advice on a painting or picture. He makes beautiful landscapes and always has good advice.
  • My favorite movie is The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Lord of the Rings is also my favorite book; it inspires me to keep going when life is difficult.
  • I often take a sketchbook when we go to zoos and museums. One time, I drew a picture of a little monkey and showed it to him. (It’s in our pics!) He snorted and walked off; I guess everyone is a critic!
  • I call Brenna my “sweet little pumpkin” because she has such a cute face.
  • Twenty One Pilots is my favorite band. Their songs have gotten me through some very hard times and encouraged me to keep going no matter what.

Brenna

  • One of my favorite movies is The Greatest Showman. The music is catchy, and it values people who are unique, like myself.
  • My favorite musicians include Lauren Daigle, Plum, and many others who inspire me in my faith.
  • I like to collect Pokémon stuffies. Gabe got me into Pokémon, and now I love them.
  • I like to make bracelets. It is fun and relaxing for me to pick out the beads and arrangements.
  • I like to do puzzles with Gabe’s mom; we are good friends. We like to talk while Gabe is mowing her lawn or doing other chores for her.
  • My family likes to play history board games, and our older nephews have started to join in now that they can understand the rules.
  • Sea turtles and stingrays are my favorite animals. One of the zoos we have gone to has a stingray petting area, and I make sure to pet them every time we go! Our nursery is even sea themed.
  • When Gabe is drawing sketches at the museum, I like to take pictures of him because he is so cute.
  • I played soccer when I was younger. Despite my size I was able to hold my own against the taller girls.
  • Our family has farmland nearby and has been in our family for several generations; we hope to live on part of it someday.
