Bryan & Morgan

We are Bryan (hello!), Morgan (hey!) and Zion (hi!). Our happy little family lives in Indiana, along with our old shelter rescue, Ivan (woof!). We’ve been married for 13 years, and Zion joined our family through adoption in 2021. Morgan works full-time as a psychologist, providing mental health therapy to US Veterans. Bryan is a proud and active stay-at-home dad to Zion. Zion is a full-time playologist, with skills in silliness, adventure, and speed. Around our house, you’ll hear a couple things repeated, most often by the blur of the 4 year old running past you: “teamwork makes the dreamwork!” and “I like to be with my family!” And it’s true — we are all pretty big fans of each other. We are the kind of family who cooks and eats dinner together every night of the week, goes on walks around our neighborhood and waves to all the familiar faces, and ends each day with giggling and stories in Zion’s room before bed. What makes our family especially unique is the Cousin Chaos. What’s that? Well: Bryan is one of SIX siblings who are ALL married with children, and all live locally.  The numbers are always growing, but the current count is that Zion is one of 13 cousins, ranging in age from under a year to 10! Sunday lunch at Grandma’s house is a FULL, fun house of cousin giggles and games. We hope we get the chance to meet you!

Morgan

  • My hair is naturally very curly and it took me about 25 years to figure out how to take care of it. Even during the “frizzy years,” I never owned a straightener and only ever let my friends straighten it a handful of times.
  • Adoption runs in my family. My dad and his brother are both adoptees, and my cousin has adopted two daughters! My dad just recently located his biological family (after decades of searching), and it has been a blast connecting with them.
  • I’m in a book club that meets monthly — we have read everything from romance to sci-fi to poetry to murder mystery. Mainly, we enjoy the laughs and snacks.
  • Something I am very passionate about is sleep! It’s one of my areas of clinical expertise (insomnia and other sleep problems). I LOVE talking about the science of sleep!
  • My ideal breakfast is authentic Mexican tacos.
  • Fred Rogers (Mister Rogers) is my role model. Even as an adult, he teaches me so much!
  • I really value talking to my girlfriends and frequently use my drive to work to catch up with someone. They are amazing women who are smart and hilarious and give me the advice I need to be the best version of myself.
  • I love to write and would someday love to write a book (maybe about sleep? or tacos?).
  • I’ve seen a very small number of movies compared to the average person (I’m just not a movie person), but I’m always down for a new TV series or a science documentary!
  • I grew up in an Italian-American, loud, hand-talking, women-powered family and am so grateful for the lessons they instilled in me about the capability of women.

Bryan

  • I care for three apple trees in our backyard that I planted as saplings. I hope to enjoy fresh apples from them one day!
  • I played the euphonium (think a smaller version of a tuba) in high school and college for marching band, concert band, and pep band. After a very long break, I have started finding time to play again just for fun once or twice a week.
  • My favorite sports teams are the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, and Notre Dame football. Zion has started to show an interest in watching games with me, which has been really heartwarming.
  • I love to read! I particularly enjoy U.S. history and presidential biographies.
  • Baking is one of my favorite hobbies. Some bakes Morgan might say I am “famous” for are banana bread, carrot cake, my Christmas fruitcake, and chocolate chip cookies (which are my grandma’s recipe, so I can’t take all the credit there).
  • We live in a very bike-friendly area, and I take advantage of this whenever I can. It is an especially fun activity when I can take Zion along with me while he rides in the pull-behind carrier.
  • Record collecting is another one of my hobbies. I particularly enjoy finding classical, jazz, and Christmas albums. I take particular pride in my collection of Christmas records and other Christmas music.
  • I enjoy going to concerts and music performances several times each year. Much like the music in my record collection, I gravitate toward classical and jazz, but have been to all different types of concerts in my life – I just like to go to whatever looks interesting!
  • I like to take care of my neighborhood in small but helpful ways – primarily through picking up litter whenever I can and by raking debris from the tops of storm drains to keep them from clogging. Zion enjoys being with me on these adventures and especially loves to use the grabber claw to help me locate and pick up litter.
  • I am a backyard bird watcher. I care for them throughout the year, making sure they have sunflower seeds to eat and fresh water to drink year-round.

Zion

  • I am an extremely curious boy and am almost always asking questions.
  • I’m a vehicle fiend: trains, cars, trucks, construction vehicles. Thank goodness dad saved all his Thomas the Train toys from when he was a kid! I love them!
  • I started Pre-K and I LOVE school and learning. My teacher says I am very smart and kind (mom and dad weren’t at all surprised).
  • I love babies, especially my baby cousins. I have gotten a lot of practice holding babies, so I think I’m ready to be promoted to big brother.
  • Mom and dad say I have an amazing sense of direction! I know my city well, and frequently help mom and dad when they are driving by letting them know which way things are.

Ivan

  • People ask all the time if I am a puppy — but I’m an old man! I’m a bit of a mystery, but I’m at least 14 years old and going strong!
  • According to me, the greatest dangers facing our family are the following: UPS package delivery drivers, squirrels, and the robot vacuum.
  • If I’m being honest, I wasn’t exactly sure about this whole “kid” thing in the beginning, but I have to admit: having a little brother is pretty great. He sneaks me treats ALL the time. (Don’t tell mom!)
  • My favorite person is my grandma (Morgan’s mom), and I’ve even gone to stay with her for a couple months for a “vacation!” (I gained weight…)
  • I get compared to lots of famous (dog) celebrities, most often Benji. However, the acting life really wasn’t for me; I prefer leisure.
