JOHN AND KRISTINA – PLACEMENT
We are Kristina, John, and Jordyn, 12 1/2. We met while we both worked at Walgreens – John in the Pharmacy and Kristina as a Beauty Advisor.
It was love at first sight!
John is a systems administrator for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He loves woodworking, video games, HGTV, and working on projects around the house. Kristina is a sixth grade teacher for a very diverse township on the east side of Indianapolis. She loves reading, remodeling the house, and being outside. As a family we love vacationing to the beach, playing games, and just enjoying life together! We also have three furry family members – Jeb, Bentley, and Bella. They are Australian Shepherds and are very loving and smart dogs!
WHAT KRISTINA THINKS ABOUT JOHN
John came into my life at the perfect time. I was 19 and a single mom and he was a 24 year old college graduate. I didn’t always feel worthy of him but he never hesitated as he fell in love with not only me, but also with Jordyn. Once we married, he adopted Jordyn. He has always been her dad and she is a self-proclaimed daddy’s girl. They go on daddy/daughter dates to get sushi and see a movie often. I have never questioned his love and devotion to me or our daughter. John is my rock and I would be lost without him!
John is my computer nerd. He loves tinkering with technology and has built a successful career doing just that. Watching him do projects around the house and get so excited about gifts like table saws is adorable! John is the cook at our house! I do not enjoy it and he loves it and is SO good at it. It works out perfectly. John is one of the funniest people I know. He is always good at making people around him laugh and smile at just the right moments with his wit. John has a huge heart and is such a loving dad and husband!
WHAT JOHN THINKS ABOUT KRISTINA
Kristina is the glue that holds our family together. She’s one of the most thoughtful people I know. I think part of the reason she loves holidays like Christmas so much is because of all the thoughtful gifts she picks out for her family and friends. I love the look of joy on her face when she sees how happy they are when open the gift. Kristina is also the most caring person I know. She wears her heart on her sleeve and would do anything for the people she loves. She is an incredible mom and very involved with Jordyn encouraging her to pursue her interests and respecting her individuality. Kristina treats people with respect. I see it every day at home and the way her students treat her at school. She makes them feel her classroom is a safe place where they are truly cared about. .
She’s also the strongest person I know. Kristina has gone through so much in her life and she’s always willing to put her heart back out there. She looks for the best in people and always manages to find it. She makes me a better person than I’d be without her. She compliments my deficiencies and makes our marriage a successful team. She’s smart, sassy and tells people how it is sometimes, even if they don’t appreciate it at the time. You always know where you stand with her!
Jordyn turns 13 in just a few months. She is sassy and sweet. We joke that she is like a sour patch kid. She is very independent and has wanted to be a big sister for as long as I can remember. She is a signed model with a local talent agency and thrives in front of a camera. She is hilarious and has a huge heart for others. She loves spending time with her friends, playing the Xbox with her dad, and the Wii with her mom. She has a huge group of close friends that she has sleepovers with often. She really enjoys youth group at our church. When we asked Jordyn what she looks forward to about being a big sister, she said “Helping change diapers!”
We try our best to be consistent with our parenting and encourage Jordyn to pursue her interests and be a kind, compassionate, open individual. We want her to be an independent thinker and stand up for herself and others. She is a patient, kind teen. So far, so good!! We aren’t perfect and apologize to her when we make mistakes. No one is perfect!!
We live in a quiet neighborhood with lots of young families! Our two story home sits in the back of the neighborhood. We have a wonderful neighborhood pool and playground that is about a five minute walk from our home. We have a large fenced in backyard – perfect for playing and running – with a fire pit that we like to make s’mores on and a grill that we use often, even in the winter! Jordyn loves riding her bike and scooter around the neighborhood as well as climbing our mature trees. We have several parks, pools, and attractions nearby so we always have many options of things to go out and do.
Kristina’s mom is married to her same-sex life partner. They live about an hour north and we see them every weekend – more in the summer time. Kristina’s two moms live in the house that Kristina grew up in. It has an above ground pool that we spend a lot of time in. We have a family reunion once a year and have lots of family get-together’s with swimming, karaoke, and games. Jordyn stays with her two grandmas every other weekend during the school year and loves going on Harley rides, baking cookies, and playing games.
We are close with John’s family! His parents, sister, and one year old nephew live about 35 minutes north and his brother, sister-in-law, and four and 2 year old nieces live about an hour north. Locally, his aunt and uncle and two adopted cousins live in the same city and we see them often for game nights and cousin sleepovers. John’s grandparents and another aunt and uncle live in Florida. We love getting to visit them on vacation once or twice a year and they come to visit us as well. John’s family loves celebrating holidays and we get together often for big meals and games of cards. John’s parents love having Jordyn for sleepovers so they can bake cookies and enjoy quality time. John’s family is very open and excited to adoption. John’s biological father was killed in a car accident when he was 4 and his mother remarried and that man adopted him and his siblings. John’s aunt and uncle have adopted two children from China and another aunt and uncle adopted from a Native American reservation.
When we first considered adoption, we were very ignorant about what openness in adoption was. Adoptions of Indiana has provided us with training and counseling that truly opens our eyes to how beneficial and amazing an open adoption can be! We hope to get to know you! We understand that there is loss in adoption that affects the birth parent and extended family. There is never too much love for a child.
