ERIN AND MEREDITH
Hi! We are Meredith and Erin, a fun-loving, married couple with a big back yard that we hope to soon share with a child. Whether it is binge watching shows on Netflix or taking our dog for a walk, we enjoy being together, laughing, and having fun! Some of our favorite activities include hiking, riding bikes, visiting new restaurants, or going to concerts and movies.
We enjoy spending time with our family near and far, whether that is visiting Meredith’s sister in St. Louis or going to see Erin’s family in Southern Indiana. Our family is loving and supportive of our plan to adopt. They are eager to gain a new family member that they can watch grow and learn and will always be there to provide love and support.
In the past year and a half, we have gained both a niece, Sawyer Meredith, and nephew, Liam Patrick. We take being ‘aunties’ very seriously, we love to babysit, buy new outfits, and play with Sawyer and Liam. Our niece and nephew bring great joy in our lives and make us very proud. They also provide us with lots of parenting practice and help us prepare for our role as parents. The majority of the photos on our phones are pictures of them and we have been guilty of annoying our co-workers at work with endless pics.
We met 3 and a half years ago on a blind date and were instantly connected. We talked for hours and shared stories. On that date, we learned about each other’s silly senses of humor and have made each other laugh ever since! As sappy as it sounds, from that moment on we have been together. We believe in building a marriage on honesty, trust, laughter, and love and strive to build on these components every day. We plan to instill these values into our child and to provide a home where he or she can thrive.
MEREDITH ON ERIN
Erin is kind, loyal and dedicated. She shows love and kindness every day and inspires me to be a better person and spouse. Whether it is writing a quick letter and sneaking it into my lunch or giving me a call after a long day, her presence makes life wonderful. Erin works very hard and she will go above and beyond to assist and support me, her family, friends, and co-workers. She is a financial analyst for a logistics company and takes great pride in working on budgets and reviewing financials.
Erin has a wonderful sense of humor and can make any situation fun and entertaining. Erin’s sense of humor was highlighted last Halloween when she went as the crazy cat lady. Her costume was a favorite at our Halloween party.
Erin is always investigating news places to visit in Indianapolis, including restaurants and local festivals. She loves to explore and learn more about what is around our home and neighborhood. She found one of our favorite local popsicle places, which we love to visit often.
Erin also is a great photographer, especially of buildings and landscapes. We display several of her New York City pictures in our home. She took several photography classes in high school and college and loves to take photographs when we are on vacation.
Erin is a dedicated auntie and will do anything to make her niece and nephew laugh. Erin will go to great lengths to get Sawyer to laugh with her, including crazy faces, sounds and rolling on the ground. When we babysit, she loves to hold Sawyer, read her stories, and take her on walks. I know she will always be there to make our child laugh and feel loved!
One of the biggest things I admire about Erin is her dedication and passion for her work. Erin is a ‘numbers nerd’ or as she likes to say, a ‘mathlete’ and works as a financial analyst for a logistics company. Although, I don’t always understand all that she does at work, I do know that she works for some very cool companies, such as Harley-Davidson, Jaguar, and Land Rover.
ERIN ON MEREDITH
Meredith is the love of my life, my best friend, my partner in crime and my happy place. She is the kindest, hardworking, smartest, dedicated, honest, funniest, caring, and loving person I know. She makes me smile and feels loved every day. I am her #1 fan!
Meredith likes to run half marathons and she is very fast at these runs. I once thought I was a better runner than her and, let’s just say when I ran with her I was out of breath very quickly! She also has a secret skill (not a secret anymore) of playing pop-a-shot basketball at arcades and scoring 60+ points without breaking a sweat. I once thought I could beat her in that too, but I was wrong, again! Meredith loves to make up silly stories that I and other people believe are real. I am excited to hear what kind of silly stories she will tell to make our child laugh!
Meredith is a special education consultant; she works with teachers to help students have the best education possible. Before becoming a special education consultant, Meredith was a special education teacher and assistant principal. I have seen her interact with her students and she gives off such a great, kind, caring vibe. She cares so much about the well-being of students and is always looking to fight for the rights of the kids who need the most assistance. She still is in contact with a lot of her previous students and will check up on them frequently to see how they are doing. Last winter we even attended a birthday party for two of her former students. She even has gone so far as to write letters of recommendations for her students. Recently, she was told that one of her former students would be running and carrying the torch in the Indiana bicentennial run where the torch will travel through each county in the state. He was awarded this honor, in part, due to her recommendation. The dedication she has for her students shows me how dedicated she will be as a mother. Both of our jobs allow us to be flexible with our time which is a blessing for our growing family.
We live in the suburbs in a three-bedroom home, which allows room for us to grow as a family.
We share our home with our dog, Layla, and three cats, Bella, Foy, and Lumiee. They make our home fun and humorous, with their individual personalities. They enjoy having little ones around! Due to the animals, we have a six-foot wooden fence around our back yard, which makes the perfect place to lie in the hammock or have a bonfire. We have been known to watch Netflix around the fire on the weekends.
We are lucky enough to have a local park in our backyard, you can literally open our fence gate into the soccer field. The park has a playground, basketball courts, and a walking path, which connects all of the parks in the town. We love to walk this path in the evenings. Our home is also located in a great public school district, which is diverse and close to our home.
My family includes my parents, Kathy and Joe, who have been together for 34 years! I am the oldest of four siblings as I have a sister, Colleen, and two brothers, Joseph and Michael. My brother Joseph and his wife just had Liam over a year ago. We love to visit them often and spoil Liam whenever we can. My youngest brother, Michael, lives close to us and we visit him or go out to eat with him as much as our schedules allow. My sister lives in Louisville and lives a very fun, active and fast-paced lifestyle. I know that if I ever need anything my parents and siblings would be there in a heartbeat.
I grew up with a lot of cousins, and now those cousins are getting married and having kids. We love to go to family events and to take turns playing with the babies and trying to make them laugh at all costs.
My parents have always been very loving and supportive all my life and it really comes out when they are around Liam. My father and Liam have a fun connection, especially when they visit my father’s farm. He loves taking Liam there to show him the tractors and deer that show up from time to time. My mother has a very fun and loud relationship with Liam as they love to pretend to call each other on a fake cell phone. I look forward to seeing that same love and joy shared with our future child.
I have two younger sisters, Kaylynn, and Hannah, who are my best friends, both growing up and now. Although the three of us are very different, we have a mutual love and respect for each other. My parents are very supportive and nurturing. They have been married for 38 years! My mom is a small animal veterinarian and owns her own clinic, and my dad is a business manager. They have taught me, by example, how to be a good parent and I would feel blessed to be able to use the lessons I’ve learned as a mother myself.
My sister Kaylynn is married to her husband, Chuck, and they recently had a baby named Sawyer. They live close to us, so we enjoy spending time with each other and babysitting Sawyer when they go on a date or need some help around the house. They are excited to be aunt and uncle to our baby and promise to love him or her as their own. Sawyer can’t wait to be a big cousin, too. Hannah, my youngest sister, lives in St. Louis and plans to attend grad school in the fall. She is smart, funny and adventurous and a wonderful aunt to Sawyer as I know she will be for our child as well.
OPENNESS IN ADOPTION AND FAMILY
We believe in the importance of open communication as well as setting appropriate boundaries when necessary. We want what is best physically, emotionally, and psychologically for our child. We believe that openness in adoption is very important for both the child and the birth parents and want to honor this in our own adoption. As the saying goes, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and we believe this fully. We want our child to know who their birth parents are and where they come from and are open to sharing our adoption story, as well as yours, with our child. We are happy to discuss with you what you hope your role will look like on this journey. We are also lucky to have wonderful family and friends to be our “village,” and are open to planning with you how you can also be a part of the “village”.
