ANDY AND NICOLE –
Hello! We are Nicole and Andy. Thank you for taking a few minutes to read our letter and to learn more about us and our story. We are a dog-loving, family-oriented couple. We love to have fun, make memories, and spend time with our very large extended families. We are uniquely connected to adoption as we have a birth mother on one side of our family, a birth father on the other side, and several adopted family extended members (both domestic and international). We have been able to witness the journey from all sides, and we are so excited to develop a relationship with you while we grow our family.
We are high school sweethearts and have been in a relationship almost half of our lives! We met when we were 15 years old and Nicole walked into a local deli to apply for a job. Andy was working the counter at the time. He gave Nicole an application (even though they weren’t hiring) and convinced his boss to hire her and her friend! We were friends for several years first and began dating during our senior year in high school. Through 8 years of dating and going to colleges in different cities, our relationship grew stronger, and we got married in 2009. We are best friends, Christians, dog parents, and beach lovers. We love traveling (especially to Southern California), attending church with family, spending time with friends, making fun of people on reality TV, being outside, playing with our nephews (ages 1 and 4), and hosting family gatherings at our house.
Nicole about Andy
Andy is a Construction Project Manager for a company based out of Indianapolis. He is extremely laidback, thoughtful, and so easy to get along with! He is hilarious and is always making me laugh. Andy is the calming force in our relationship. He never worries or stresses out about anything, and he keeps me grounded. Most importantly, he is my best friend! Andy is very handy and is always working on a project around the house or on someone’s car. He is a great uncle to our nephews, who are absolutely obsessed with him, and I can’t wait to see him as a father!
Andy about Nicole
Nicole is a CT Scan Technologist at a local hospital. She is kind, sweet, and patient. She is a great planner and always keeps us organized and on time. Nicole is always smiling and has an infectious smile that lights up the room! She is a fun person that loves exploring new places and trying new things. She is a very involved and nurturing aunt to our nephews, and I can see that she has all the qualities that will make her a great mom.
We both have very large extended families. Almost all of our family members live within 30 mins of us! Both of our parents live in the same school district as us, and they actually live right down the street from each other! This makes our family gatherings and holidays very convenient! Andy has 3 siblings and many stepsiblings. There are lots of little children on his side of the family! Nicole is a triplet and is very close with her sister and brother. Her sister and her husband have two boys, and her brother and his wife have a little one on the way! We love participating in traditions like going on large family beach vacations with Nicole’s family every summer. Everyone in our family is very supportive of our adoption decision and is so excited to welcome a new little one to the family with open arms!
We live in a nice neighborhood in a great school district in a suburb of Indianapolis. Our neighborhood is filled with children, and the neighborhood playground is directly across the street from our house! We built our house several years ago with family planning in mind, so we have lots of room for children to grow and play! Nicole’s sister and her family live 4 houses down the street from us, which allows us to see our nephews daily. We are like second parents to them and absolutely love being so close by! Nicole even babysits them two mornings a week while her sister works part-time. Many of our friends from high school and their children live in our neighborhood as well. We have regular block parties and feel blessed to be a part of such a close neighborhood!
We have a 7 year old Sheltie named Paisley, and she is like a child to us! She is the sweetest little dog and is a very important part of our family. Paisley is very much a people-oriented dog. She is always right by our sides and follows us everywhere we go. She loves babies and loves to chase my nephews around our house!
Nicole recently switched her hours at work to three overnight weekend shifts a week so she can be home with our child most of the time. We both grew up with stay at home moms and believe it is very important for our child to experience that as well. On the few days a week when we are unable to be home, Nicole’s sister will babysit our child. Nicole’s mom will also be helping out as she is an elementary school teacher and has several breaks from school throughout the year.
Openness in adoption
We both understand the importance of openness in adoption and feel strongly that every child deserves the opportunity to know their history, where they came from, and their birth family. We want to create a positive line of communication with you, so our child can have a positive, respectful, meaningful relationship with you as well. There can never be too many people around to love a child!
